Growth had outpaced the process
The operator's dispatch team was coordinating a growing driver fleet through a mix of spreadsheets, group texts, and phone calls. It worked at low volume; at scale it was actively costing them, missed pickups, drivers idling without a next job, no real-time visibility for customers.
They needed a real system: live GPS-based routing, a driver-facing mobile app simple enough to use one-handed, and a dispatcher console that replaced the spreadsheet entirely.
Shipping the driver app first
We started with the piece that had the least room for error: the driver app. A four-person team (two web, two mobile), built and tested it directly with a pilot group of drivers before the dispatcher console existed, so the routing logic was validated against real routes from day one.
The dispatcher console followed once the routing engine was proven, giving the operator's ops team live fleet visibility for the first time.
What's running today
The platform pairs a React Native driver app with a real-time dispatcher console, backed by a Node.js service layer and Postgres for shipment and routing data. Live location updates flow through a WebSocket layer so both drivers and dispatchers see the same state at all times.
